Why choose us
Ten things we commit to — and what each one actually means on site.
These are the commitments Silver Stag Construction work to on every job. They are ordinary rather than heroic, which is rather the point: most building projects go wrong on communication, sequence and tidiness long before they go wrong on craftsmanship.
01Clear communication
One point of contact, and an answer rather than a maybe. You are told what is happening this week, what is happening next week, and what we need a decision on before it holds the job up.
“They kept us informed throughout” is the single most common thread in this firm's Google reviews.
02Fair, transparent pricing
Clear, detailed, itemised quotations with no hidden costs. Where a specification is undecided, you get a range and an explanation, not a guess hidden in a lump sum.
“Their quote was not the cheapest but it was comprehensive, transparent and coherently structured.” — Edward Bilbe
03Flexibility
Plans change once you can stand in the space. We will price a variation properly and tell you honestly what it does to the programme rather than absorbing it quietly and resenting it later.
“We've since asked them back to do two other jobs for us.” — Jo Moffatt
04Fully insured
The company carries full insurance for the work it does, and we will show you the cover before you commit to a contract. Ask any builder for this; a straight answer tells you a lot.
A Federation of Master Builders member firm — the FMB vets member businesses and inspects them independently.
05A methodical process
Site visit, written scope, itemised quote, agreed order of works, then build. Each stage has an obvious end, so nobody is guessing whether the job is on track.
Set out in full on our how-we-work page — four stages, and the build order underneath them.
06Minimal noise and disruption
You live in the house while we work in it. Noisy work kept to sensible hours, dust protection and sheeted routes through the house, and a site tidied at the end of the day.
“Excellent tradesmen in all areas” — Gordon Edwards, on a single-storey extension built around an occupied house.
07Superior workmanship
The bricklaying, roofing and joinery are the parts you will look at for twenty years. We use trades we have worked with repeatedly, and we would rather lose a week than hand over something we would not accept at home.
“Particularly the bricklaying and roofing guys were fantastic.” — Gordon Edwards
08Written contracts
Scope, stages, payment points and terms written down before work starts. It protects you and it protects us, and it removes the argument that most building disputes actually turn on.
A written contract is one of the things the FMB expects of its member firms.
09A proper hand-over
Snag list walked with you, certificates from every registered trade collected and handed over, site cleared, and a conversation about anything in the finished building that needs looking after.
Described stage by stage on our how-we-work page.
10We answer for the whole job
One firm coordinating every trade on site, so when something needs sorting you ring one number — not the electrician, then the plumber, then the tiler.
“James and his team completed a single story extension and ‘knock through’… a fantastic job from start to finish.” — Paul and Abi Briggs
How that lands on your job
Four of them, translated into things you can actually check.
A quote you can follow
Clear, detailed and itemised, with no hidden costs — so you can see what each part of the job is costing you and make decisions with real numbers rather than a single figure at the bottom of a page.
You hear about problems early
“They handled any issues or problems… with a calm and thoughtful way.” Old houses hold surprises. We tell you the day we find one, along with the options and what each of them does to the programme.
Written contracts, proper hand-over
The scope, the stages and the terms are written down before anything starts, and the job ends with a snag list walked with you rather than a van quietly driving away.
We keep the disruption down
You are living in the house while we work in it. Dust protection, sheeted routes, noise kept to sensible hours and a site tidied at the end of the day — these are part of the job, not a favour.
We work alongside your architect, structural engineer and building control where a project has them, and bring in our own regular trades and suppliers — kitchen fitters, glaziers, electricians and plumbers — where specialist work is needed.
Most of the lines above are either things a client has already written in a Google review, or facts you can check on a public register. Not promises invented for a leaflet.
