Renovations
From one room to a complete overhaul of the house
Renovating a house you already own is a different job from extending it. There is no clean slab to start on — everything is a decision about what stays, what goes, and what you find behind it. We have done enough of them around Henley, Caversham and the commons to be straight with you about which parts are worth spending on.
Small scale to complete overhaul: one room brought up to date, or a whole house stripped back, rewired, re-plumbed, re-planned and put back together.
Rewiring, plumbing and heating
Full or partial rewires and new consumer units, hot and cold pipework renewed, heating reworked and radiators or underfloor heating relocated to suit the new layout. Certification comes from the registered trades who carry out the work, and is handed to you at the end rather than promised.
Structural changes
Walls removed and beams installed, openings widened, chimney breasts taken out, floors levelled or renewed, and loft or dormer alterations where the roof allows it. Temporary support and engineer's calculations first — always.
Kitchens and bathrooms
Kitchens and bathrooms stripped out and rebuilt, including the parts that are easy to underestimate: moving waste and supply, levelling floors, boxing in services, tiling, glass splashbacks and getting the extract ventilation right so the finish lasts.
Plastering, joinery and decorating
Skimming and re-plastering, new skirtings, architraves, doors and fitted joinery, then painting and decorating to finish. On older houses we allow drying time and say so in the programme, because paint put onto damp plaster is the commonest reason a renovation looks tired within a year.
